FAQ

Question 1: I have no Geography background, can I offer Geography at A-Level?

Answer: Yes, some of our students don’t have Geography background. What is needed more is the interest in the subject, the readiness to read and the ability and willingness to write essays.

Question 2: How is ‘A’ Level Geography different from O-Level Geography?

Answer: The majority of the topics covered in O-Level Geography is not repeated in A-Level Geography. There is only slight advantage for students with prior Geography knowledge as topics covered at A-Level are either new or done at surface level at O-Level, and the skills taught are still relevant for A-Level Geography.

Question 3: Can I do both H2 Geography and H2 History?

Answer: As both H2 History and H2 Geography are content-heavy subjects and highly demanding, the College does not advise students to take both subjects together at H2 Level. Moreover, this combination is not offered in the list of subject combinations as it is not a popular request, with the possibility of a class not being formed. On top of that, Geography and History lectures/tutorials are concurrent so it will pose a constraint to timetabling matters as well.

Question 4: Can I offer H1 History and H2 Geography?

Answer: You may but it will be content heavy and challenging to manage, hence it is not advisable.

Question 5: Does the college offer H3 for the Humanities subjects?

Answer: Yes, but this offer is conditional upon the student’s performance in the specific subject and overall performance after the JC 1 Promotional examination and his/her research interests. It is also subjected to the recommendation by the relevant tutors.
