Note: This page is relevant only for the Junior Scientist Category. Video submissions are not required for projects entered in the Main Category.
Overview
Each individual / team project can only submit one short video that is no longer than 5 minutes.
The purpose of the video is to explain the project content to non-experts.
The video can take any form (e.g. animation, documentary, talking heads, docudrama). An effective video usually contains dynamic visuals (e.g. diagrams, physical demonstrations, simulations).
Rules
Videos must not be created with professional assistance.
Adults are allowed to be actors or cameramen but not content contributors (such as script-writing).
Videos that contain obscene, provocative, objectionable or inappropriate content will be disqualified from the video contest.
Avoid references to commercial brands, trademarks or products (including names, logos or other recognisable features) in a way that could be understood as endorsement of such a brand/product, endorsement by the brand/company, or criticism against the brand / company / product.
IP rights
All videos must be original work conceived and created by the students.
No copyrighted materials (e.g. images, music) may be used in the video unless the students own the copyright, or have a license to use the material for the video contest.
If the students have gained formal permission to use any copyrighted materials (e.g. images, music) under terms and conditions stipulated by the copyright owners, the students need to include an acknowledgment / credit at the end of the video or list the credits clearly in the description of the video.
Ownership of the underlying intellectual property of the video remains with the student(s) of the individual/team project, with the following exceptions:
Students grant the organisers the right to use, distribute and display their videos without further compensation or notification to the student(s).
Students grant the organisers the right to use their images and videos for publicity and advertising without further compensation or notification to the student(s).
Submission Process
Project videos are to be uploaded onto YouTube with the Project Code and Title (e.g. "JBI057 Effect of light on plant growth") in the video title. The video title should be the same as the title of the project (except in cases where the title is longer than what YouTube allows in the title field, where a reasonable shortening is allowed, while keeping the title recognisable).
Videos should be marked as “unlisted”.
Students will submit the YouTube link through the SSEF portal.
All Junior Scientist projects must submit a video via the SSEF portal between 19 Jan 2026 (Mon) and 3 Feb 2026 (Tue), 5pm.
Public Voting for Junior Scientist video is from 16 Feb to 3 Mar 2026.
