Judging for Main Category and Junior Scientist projects is conducted independently as the projects are in separate categories.
Judges for Final Judging and Preliminary Judging are allocated randomly (according to category), and in general, judges allocated for preliminary judging would not be the same judges for final judging.
Preliminary Judging and Final Judging are conducted independently, with no carry-over of the scores from preliminary judging.
Judges for Final Judging assess the project holistically. Judges will have access to the project report, but will also make their judgement based on the poster, oral presentation and interview.
SSEF projects are scored according to the following criteria. See below for the detailed rubrics.
There are two sets of awards for the Junior Scientist Category:
Project Awards (based on Project Report and Interview at SSEF Final Judging. Judging criteria for these awards are the same as those of the SSEF Main Category (see table above and rubrics below).
Video Awards (based only on Video Submissions) for all projects, regardless of whether the project is selected for SSEF Final Judging. The Video Awards are judged based on the following criteria:
Engagement: Did the video capture the viewer’s interest?
Accuracy and Clarity: Did the video help its viewer develop a genuine understanding of the project? Was the project explained accurately?
Creativity: Did the participants make an effort to approach the explanation in a creative way?
The two sets of awards would be judged independently.
In addition to project awards, Special Awards are awarded by sponsoring organisations. Judging is conducted by each special award organisation, according to judging criteria specific to each award.
