Device Management Application (DMA)
In rolling out Personal Learning Devices (PLDs) for students, MOE is acutely aware of concerns regarding students’ cyber-wellness. The DMA allows the school and parents to manage this, by
collecting data on usage by the student, such as the amount of time spent on each application,
monitoring, filtering and limiting the type of websites accessible to the student, and
placing restrictions on students’ screen time in order to prevent cyber addiction.
What can the DMA do?
Default vs Option A vs Option B
The DMA serves to help students in the appropriate use of the PLD primarily as a learning device. Some key features are:
Mobile Device Management Service (MDM) facilitates the updating and management of the PLDs, protects PLDs from malicious software, and protects students from objectionable internet content.
Scheduled downtime of iPads. This helps to regulate students' sleep and moderate their screen time.
Classroom management of iPad.
The DMA does NOT collect any of these data:
Login IDs and passwords
Activities and data (e.g. posts, online comments, shopping cart, etc.) when visiting websites and use apps
Documents and photos stored in the PLDs
PLD location
Webcam videos and microphone recordings
The DMA Parent Guides are accessible in the following links and are summarised below.
We highly recommend students to remain on the default option as MOE has configured the option to be suitable for most students. This includes all the web filters to undesirable sites.
Parents who are more technically savvy and would like to have more control over the use of the iPad may consider option A. This will allow for additional app purchases using your personal Apple account and control over the iPad's usage times. Please note that the setup process can be challenging as you will have to configure the sleep schedule and web filters from scratch.
We highly discourage parents from opting in to Option B which allows your child/ward unrestricted access to the internet and applications after school hours. This increases the risk of misuse of the PLD, including increased screen time and installation of apps that distracts students learning.
This option is for parents/guardians who do not want your child’s/ward’s use of the PLD after school hours to be regulated by the DMA at all. All browsing activities on the PLD will not be logged. There will also not be any sleep hours set on the PLD, which allows your child/ward unrestricted access throughout the night.
Note: By not logging browsing activities, the DMA will not be able to provide any web content filtering for your child/ward.

DMA Timings for Students
* Timing for Students on Option A and B might differ slightly based on settings. School hours remain the same.
For parents who would like to amend your after-school DMA option, you can do so by sending us an e-mail at askndlp@ctss.edu.sg. Do include your child's full name, CCA and your preferred DMA option. Your child's CCA parent might contact you to verify your request.
*Please note that changes will only take effect at the end of the month.
