□ Measuring length in metres (m) / centimetres (cm)
□ Measuring and drawing a line segment to the nearest cm
□ Using appropriate units of measurement and their abbreviations cm, m
□ Comparing and ordering lengths
□ Solving word problems involving length
1) Blended Learning:
Prior to the Unit on Length, teachers will assign students with the SLS lesson on Length. Through the SLS lesson, students learn how to use rulers to measure objects accurately in cm and m. At the end of the SLS lesson, students are required to attempt a few questions based on what they have learnt. From their answers, teachers will close the learning gap during the lesson and emphasize on important concepts to take note. 2) DI by learning style: in their groups of 4, students can decide whether they want to work individually, in pairs or in groups of 3 or 4 for this learning activity.
3) DI by interest: from the given objects, students can choose 4 objects in total to measure their length and they can choose which measuring tools to use to measure.
Teachers will distribute the items to the groups and they measure the items. Wipe down the items and measuring tools after using.
Items: twine, ice-cream sticks, A5 size exercise books, length of math workbook, length of window pane
Measuring tools: 15cm ruler/30cm ruler/metre rule/ broken ruler
4) Providing Peer feedback
After students are done with WB page 41 on measuring and drawing line segment, they will exchange their work with a partner. The partner will check and mark the classmate’s work. A checklist will be given to them to assess their classmate’s work. They will give a chop to their classmate if they have met the success criteria on the checklist. They can add in comments to encourage their classmate and on how to improve their lines verbally. The skill of measuring lines is reinforced when checking their classmate’s work.
