2. How are students selected to take up Computing as a subject at O-Levels? My child is interested in Computing at O levels. What is the criteria to be chosen for Computing at the end of Sec 2? Do those who entered via Direct School Admission (CODE) have the priority to take up Computing in Secondary 3?

In CTSS, Computing is offered as a G3 subject. At the end of Sec 2, interested students may opt for this subject if they have met the subject-specific criteria. Placement in the subject is based on academic merit, available vacancies and availability of resources. Students who enter by DSA (Code) do not have priority.

3. What are the opportunities available for students who exhibit strengths in Science and Mathematics?

For Science, the school identifies students with talent in Science and provides them with opportunities to be further developed in the following domains:

• Discipline-focused Competitions e.g. Olympiad Trainings, International Biomedical Quiz;

• Research-Focused e.g. Science-in-Action which leads to Singapore Science & Engineering Fair;

• Innovation-Focused e.g. Unity Science Challenge, STEM Playground.

• Sustainability-Focused e.g. initiating Values-Action Projects to promote eco stewardship through Hydroponics and urban gardening.

For Math, the school identifies students who are talented in Math and provides them with out-of-curriculum exposures. They are also given the opportunities to participate in competitions to further develop their interests and skills. Competitions include Singapore Math Olympiad, Singapore Math Society Project Festival and Essay Writing, and All Secondary School Math Competition for Normal Course students.

4. How many triple / double Pure Science classes does CTSS offer for Upper Secondary G3 level?

The number of students offering triple and double Pure Science classes varies each year depending on the subject combination choices of the students of that cohort. We provide enough capacity to allow minimally 3 class size of students to take double pure sciences. Out of the 3 class size of students, we have provision for 1 class size of triple pure science class if students are interested to offer.

5. What is the minimum requirement for Mother Tongue Language (MTL) for Secondary 3 students who like to continue with Higher Mother Tongue Language (HMTL) in Secondary 4?

To continue taking HMTL in Sec 4, students are to score good results in the O Level MTL examination in Sec 3 and are assessed to be able to cope with the academic rigor of Sec 4 HMTL.

6. What is the arrangement for students who are exempted from MTL when the rest of the class is having MTL lessons during formal curriculum?

Students who are exempted from MTL will be doing their own self-study at the study areas during their MTL lessons.

7. Matters related to Mother Tongue Language & Foreign Languages

Sec 1 Express students can only take Higher Mother Tongue if they are offered by MOE. Those who are not offered by MOE but are very keen to take Higher Mother Tongue, the school will offer them based on merit and recommendation of their MTL teachers at the end of Sec 1.

Students who are offered by MOE to take 3rd Language (Chinese Special Programme/Malay Special Programme/Other Foreign Languages) will be attending lessons at designated language centres.

Non-Tamil speaking students of Indian ethnicity can apply to study Non-Tamil Indian Language (Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Punjabi or Urdu). These language classes are not provided by MOE and are usually conducted outside of school premises and hours.
