In 2017, Alexandra Primary School introduced the "Cultural Intelligence (CQ) - The Code of Life" curriculum, focussing on Civic Literacy, Global Awareness, and Cross-Cultural Skills to cultivate responsible citizens with a strong sense of civic responsibility, knowledge about Singapore and the world, and a commitment to community involvement. This initiative aligns with the school's values of character development, love for learning and global readiness. The curriculum has been enhanced and integrated into Values-in-Action, Social Studies, and English Language. The school's dedication to CQ was recognized as a Promising Practice in 2022.
To apply their CQ learning, the school has organised various experiences for students:
1. In 2018 and 2019, students from Hanlin Primary School and Wen Cui Primary School in China visited ALPS, engaging in classroom activities, canteen visit, Racial Harmony Day activities and teacher exchange sessions.
2. Immersion trips to the same two Chinese schools were planned for 2018 and 2019 but were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Ongoing communication through email was explored. Additionally, a partnership with a school in Brunei began in 2018 but was disrupted by COVID-19.
3. The exchange programme with The Japanese School, Singapore enables Alexandrians to interact with peers from a different culture and apply their CQ curriculum learning. The programme continued online during COVID-19 pandemic.
