All students taking an ag class at MHS are required to have a substantial SAE project. An SAE project is a Supervised Agricultural Experience that gives students valuable, hands-on experiences in the agricultural industry and career preparation skills. Students are required to have at least (1) project each year that accounts for 10% of their grade in each ag class. Students are required to obtain a certain amount of hours, maintain their AET record book, and give an oral presentation on the due date.
The Modoc County Junior Livestock Show is a week-long event that takes place in June in Alturas at the JLS grounds. Students with SAE animal projects such as market and breeding animal projects, exhibit their livestock here. Student will show their animals for market sale, for breeding, and compete in showmanship. Animal species include: equine, poultry, rabbits, goats, lambs, swine, and beef. Alturas FFA students wishing to raise an animal and show at JLS are required to obtain, sign, and follow a contract with our program.
