Our history begins in the city of Alturas, CA. It is a rural town that is known for its beautiful views, wildlife, and recreational opportunities. Alturas is located in Modoc County in the far northeast corner of the state. Its top agricultural commodities are hay and cattle, with many local ranches in the surrounding area. Alturas is "Where the West still lives" as evidenced by its slow ways of living and community involvement. Today, local attractions in Alturas include The Auction Yard, the historic Niles Hotel, and local restaurants such as The Brass Rail and The Wagon Wheel. Just outside of Alturas, visitors can enjoy the Modoc National Wildlife Refuge, hot springs and lava beds, the Warner Mountains, and all of the fishing and hunting these lands offer.
The FFA Organization was chartered in 1928, with the Alturas FFA chapter earning its charter not far behind in 1930. Alturas FFA is the local FFA chapter affiliated with Modoc High School.
The FFA recognizes that the organization is for students with diverse interests in the food, fiber, and natural resource industries, encompassing science, business, and technology in addition to production agriculture. Today FFA is among the largest youth organizations in the United States, with 1,027,273 members in 9,235 chapters throughout all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. FFA is the largest of the career and technical student organizations in U.S. schools, and is the largest club at Modoc High School.
