Health and Safety

"Because of the increasing rates of obesity, unhealthy eating habits, and physical inactivity, we may see the first generation that will be less healthy and have a shorter life expectancy than their parents. People with pre-diabetes can delay and even prevent Type 2 diabetes by losing just 5 to 7 percent of their body weight through moderate changes in diet and exercise. The changes—such as walking for 30 minutes a day five days a week—are simple, and prove that small steps can bring big rewards." - U.S. Surgeon General, 2004.

The Society of Health and Physical Educators, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Institute of Medicine, and World Health Organization all recommend that schools provide 150 minutes of instructional physical education for elementary school children per week.

Please support your school's physical education program and promote healthy habits at home in order to delay or prevent chronic disease!
