The Bobcat Den
September 26, 2025
September 26, 2025
Over the past two weeks, our school-wide focus has been on Community and Acceptance. These themes have been at the center of classroom conversations and activities, helping students build connections and celebrate the many strengths each person brings to UCS.
We were treated to an energetic performance by the MMU Spirit Squad at our last All-School Morning meeting. Their enthusiasm set a positive tone for the day and reminded us of the power of school spirit! Our 3rd and 4th graders also enjoyed their field trip to the Sailing Center in Burlington, where they had the chance to learn, explore, and build teamwork on the water. To close out this week, we held our annual Zucchini Relay Race, a quirky and much-loved UCS tradition. With teams racing zucchinis in hand, the laughter and teamwork on display always makes it an event to remember!
We are going to be focusing on sportsmanship and keeping our bodies safe while we are at recess over the next few weeks as there has been much competitive spirit while playing games. We will be introducing and taking games out of recess so don't be surprised if you hear about this either! We are asking for your help. The main focus in PE has been around these 3 aspects of sportsmanship:
Winning without boasting
Losing without complaining
Respect to all
We also have an exciting couple of weeks of community-building events and learning opportunities ahead:
Harvest Market Parade is TOMORROW (Saturday): Join the UCS PTO as we walk in the parade! We’re meeting at 8:30a at BRMS. Don’t forget to wear your purple and green. (See the flyer/info below for details.)
A visit from Recycle Rhonda. A fun and interactive session to help our students learn more about sustainability.
There is NO School next Thursday & Friday, October 2nd and 3rd.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us make UCS a place where every student feels accepted, valued, and excited to learn. I hope you and your family are able to enjoy this beautiful fall weather!

UCS at the HARVEST MARKET
Please join us for the HARVEST MARKET PARADE on September 27th! Line up at BRMS at 8:30 AM. Be sure to plan ahead to find parking and get to the line up area by 8:30 so your child has time to decorate their own Bobcat mask to sport while they march! Look for the UCS Float and Banner to find our mask making tables.
Parents should plan to stay with their children during the parade. This is especially important for younger children as the Harvest Market is quite busy and the end of the parade can be hectic. Parents should also keep an eye on children on the float for safety. Please note that not all students will fit on the float, though all students will have the opportunity to pass out candy to spectators!
Don't forget to wear your favorite Bobcat Gear or as much GREEN and PURPLE as you can to show your UCS Spirit!

Emergency Safety Response Caregiver Letter
Starting in September, UCS students and staff will be practicing our Emergency Safety Response plans. These drills are evaluated regularly by our UCS Crisis Response Team and follow all state and local guidelines. Here is the UCS Parent/Caregiver School Safety Letter outlining the importance of these drills we conduct throughout the SY. One of these requirements is for schools to conduct two Options Based Response to a Violent Intruder Drills, one to be held in September and the other in the month of January. UCS will be holding the first Options Based Drill the week of September 17th and the second drill will be conducted during the week of January 19th. Please know that age appropriate steps will be taken to reduce student anxiety.

Periodic Reminder to Check Your Child for Lice and Nits
This notice serves as a reminder to check your child’s head for lice periodically. Consider checking weekly. Head lice are tiny, crawling insects that live in the human hair. They do not fly or jump. The females lay eggs called nits on the hair shaft close to the scalp, often at the nape of the neck and behind the ears. The nits are small, oval-shaped specks that can vary from whitish to brownish in color, and are firmly cemented in place and cannot be brushed or flicked away. Persistent itching of the head and back of the neck can indicate head lice. Most important is the examination of the hair and scalp, especially the nape of the neck and behind the ears, for nits. Lice outbreaks are common in school-aged children. Even the cleanest child can become infested. It is not a sign of poor health habits or being dirty. If you discover lice or nits, ask your pharmacist or healthcare provider about treatment options. School nurses can also answer questions about head lice
Please feel free to contact the health office if you have questions about sending your child to school after an illness.
