As a friendly reminder, please try labeling all of your child's snow gear so if it left behind, we can get it back to them! This will help limit the amount of clothes in our lost & found!
As we prepare for winter vacation, I want to take a moment to celebrate the many wonderful experiences we’ve shared as a school community this season and to express my sincere gratitude for your continued support.
Earlier this week, we celebrated a successful Food Drive with our inaugural UCS Food Chain. Students and staff lined the hallways, passing donated food from one end of the school to the other, an incredible moment that truly brought our community together and highlighted the power of teamwork and generosity.
We ended the week by gathering for and All-School Morning Meeting led by Ms. Bolio-Gallaspie and concluded the meeting with our Winter Sing-Along, a cherished UCS tradition that filled the room with music and joy. As we head into break, students will also take part in an all-school reading event and a school-wide trivia challenge on Monday, followed by our Winter Solstice activities on Tuesday. These experiences provide meaningful opportunities for students to reflect, connect, and celebrate the season together.
Moments like these remind us of the strength, care, and spirit of the UCS community. I am deeply thankful to our families, staff, and community members whose support and collaboration make these engaging and memorable experiences possible for our students. Wishing you all a restful, joyful, and peaceful winter break filled with warmth and laughter. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in January as we continue learning and growing together in the new year!

GIRLS on the RUN is BACK!
We’re getting ready for another amazing season of Girls on the Run at UCS, but we need your help! We’re looking for volunteer coaches to help lead this fun, empowering program for 3rd and 4th grade girls. The season typically begins in March and runs two days a week after school, ending around 3:45 PM. The program wraps up with an inspiring Celebration 5K on Saturday, May 30, as part of the Essex 5K! Don’t worry if you can’t commit to both days, we’re very flexible and would love to have you join us even if you can only help one day a week!
If you’re interested in coaching, please reach out to Head Coach Abbie Bernier at abigail.bernier@mmuusd.org for more information and fill out the coach volunteer form.
We’re also trying to gauge interest for this year’s team! If your 3rd or 4th grade girl would like to participate, please complete the interest form: GOTRVT Participant Interest Form.
Please note: this is not the official registration, just a way for us to plan for the number of participants. Let’s make this another great season of fun, friendship, and running!

Food Allergy Safe School Information for Celebrations
The Mount Mansfield Unified Union School District elementary schools are “Food Allergy Aware / Safe Schools” and have adopted a food-free birthday celebration model. Please do not send in food to celebrate your student’s birthday. For classroom or whole school celebrations involving food, all food will be provided by the teacher, school administration, or parent-teacher organization, in accordance with our food safety procedures.
Stay Home When Sick
Refer to the MMUUSD District Illness Guidelines to determine if your child should stay home from school.
Periodic Reminder to Check Your Child for Lice and Nits
It is that time of year where we come across head lice in the class. This is a reminder to check your child’s head for lice periodically - checking weekly is a good habit. Head lice are tiny insects that live in the hair and on the scalp.. They do not fly or jump, but they can crawl from one person to another with close contact. Lice lay eggs called nits that stick tightly to the hair near the scalp, often behind the ears or at the back of the neck. Nits look like small white or brown specks and can’t be easily brushed away. If your child is scratching their head or neck more than usual, it’s a good idea to take a close look. Head lice are common among school-aged children and can happen to anyone - they’re not a sign of being dirty or unclean. If you do find lice or nits, your pharmacist or health care provider can help you choose a treatment. Be sure to follow the directions carefully, including retreating in 7-10 days if indicated. Additionally, it is essential to comb your child’s hair with a lice comb daily for at least 2 full weeks to remove nits. Following this treatment plan is the best way to keep lice from coming back.
Please feel free to contact the health office if you have questions about sending your child to school after an illness.
