Spelling Practice Ideas

Below are a few optional spelling activities that your student can work on during our time away from school. None of this is required. I am simply providing it to you as a way for us to stay connected and for your student to continue his/her learning over the next month that we are out of school.

Spelling City:

  • Visit https://www.spellingcity.com (or launch the app)
  • I will email out each students log in information separately (username and password).
  • All the spelling words we have covered so far this year will be on this site. Students can practice the words, take spelling tests, work on vocabulary definitions. I am also hoping to put our core knowledge vocabulary words on this site too for more challenge.

Spelling Word Practice/Tests:

  • Students can work on coding all the spelling words we have learned so far this year.
  • Students can work to code other words they find in the books they are reading.
  • Students can be given spelling tests over words they have learned.

Spelling Sentences:

  • Review the spelling and vocabulary words we have learned this year by writing sentences using any of our spelling and/or vocabulary words.
  • Please see the attached spelling sentence paper. You are welcome to print this off if you would like.

Write a Paragraph:

  • Practice paragraph writing (at least 5 sentences about one topic) by writing about your day or a specific thing you did during the day.
  • Write a paragraph teaching us how to do something.

Write a Story:

  • Write and illustrate a story.
    • Create a story all your own. Write and illustrate a story. Share it with your family and maybe have a chance to share it with the class during one of our zoom visits.
    • Please see the attached story paper. You are welcome to print this off if you would like.
