Below are a few optional reading activities that your student can work on during our time away from school. None of this is required. I am simply providing it to you as a way for us to stay connected and for your student to continue his/her learning over the next month that we are out of school.
If you choose an online option through ReadWorks and/or Epic, I will be able to assign your student reading passages based on his/her reading level and see your child's progress.
1. Have students go to www.readworks.org/student
2. Students enter class code 2WD4UK
3. Tell your students that their default password is 1234
Note: Students can change their passwords when they log in
I sent you an invite via email, but if it didn't come through or work, here is another way to sign up to have access to this site.
Laptops/Chromebooks
Have your students open up their web browser and
1: Go to www.getepic.com/students
2: Log in with your class code: lgv0449
3: Select their name and they’re in!
iOS/Android
After launching the Epic app, ask students to:
1: Select “Have an account? Log In” then click “Students & Educators”
2: Log in with your class code: lgv0449
3: Select their name and they’re in!
Simply having your child read out loud to him/herself or to others is another great way to keep him/her practicing and growing in fluency. If you have time to ask comprehension questions about what was read, such as, Who is the main character? What happened when the character did...? How did the story end? this will help boost his/her ability to read with understanding. I also hope to do some of this during our class meetups and small group meeting times.
