In Reading, students will continue to explore various comprehension strategies they can use to help them understand what they have read. This week the focus will be using what they know to predict what will happen next. During these lessons students will continue to practise reading fluently.
In our storybook lessons we will be reading a new text called "The Lost Girl" by Ambelin Kwaymullina. Students will be focusing on vocabulary, narrative elements and answering questions. Our feature vocabulary words for this text will be: glow, huddle and foolish.
This week students will continue to write a persuasive piece of writing. We will explore persuasive language (such as modal verbs) and the structure of persuasive texts (e.g. starting a paragraph with an opinion and then providing reasons to support our opinion). We will also focus on editing our writing and begin to publish what they have written
This week students will be learning to use number bonds to 10 and place value to add multiples of 10 within 100. We are also learning to add two-digit numbers by partitioning numbers into tens and ones (no regrouping).
In Spelling this week, we will be exploring the spelling choices for the long i sound /ī/ (igh, y, i_e) AND begin to explore spelling choices for the long o sound /ō/ (ow/oa/o_e).
We will be focusing on the tricky words: people, who, caught, something.
At home, you can support your child by doing the following activities:
Child writes the word, saying each sound as he/she writes.
Draw child’s attention to the target phonic pattern.
Help child choose the correct spelling pattern if there are options.

In Grammar this week, students will be focusing on adjectives (describing words).

In Wellbeing this week, we will continue out Cyber Safety lessons. We will understand how to act responsibly when creating strong, safe and unique passwords.
Why this is important: Passwords are a critical tool for data security. This lesson teaches students to create strong passwords and take responsibility for keeping their information safe.
To be successful in this lesson, students can:
- explain why strong passwords are important for online safety.
- create a password that is long, unique, and hard to guess.
- identify how to act responsibly by keeping my passwords private and secure.
