This week in Reading, we are continuing to explore persuasive texts and learning how writers share their ideas and convince others! We’re discovering the difference between facts and opinions, and how to give reasons to support what we believe.
Students are continuing to build their reading fluency by reading and talking about a range of different texts. We are working towards becoming confident readers and reflective thinkers who can express our ideas clearly and convincingly.
We will be exploring the text 'Pete the Sheep' by Jackie French and Bruce Whately focusing on vocabulary, narrative elements and answering questions. Our feature vocabulary words for this text are: success, admire and sensational.
This week in writing, we are excited to dive into persuasive texts! Students will be using powerful feeling verbs to share their opinions and learning how modal verbs can make their arguments even stronger. They’ll practise giving clear reasons, explaining their thinking, and considering their audience to make their ideas truly convincing. We’ll also be working on organising our writing into clear paragraphs so everyone can shine as confident, persuasive writers.
This week in maths, we are focusing on adding and subtracting within 20 by using the “bridge to 10” strategy. Students will practise partitioning numbers, using number bonds to 10, and bridging to 10 on ten-frames and number lines. We’ll be using hands-on materials like counters and ten-frames to help us add and subtract confidently, building strong understanding as we work with numbers that cross ten.
We are also be looking at tell the time to the quarter of an hour and learn about clockwise and anti-clockwise turns!
This week in spelling, we are focusing on reading, writing and sorting words with the long /a /sound and choosing the correct spelling for it.

Help child choose the correct spelling pattern if there are options.
We will also be focusing on the words February, friend, were.

In our grammar lesson, we will be focusing on what a pronoun (he, she, it, they) is, and explore when we use pronouns in a text.
** Differentiated learning will be present in each class to cater for all students individual learning requirements.
This week, we will be revisiting our Cyber Safety learning from last week. We’ll focus on recognising our emotions and learning how to use them in positive ways to maintain a healthy and balanced approach to being online.
