STORY SUMMARY

William and Judy Mason, married for more than 50 years, live in separate apartments inside the high-rise at the Colony Plaza apartment building.


After being separated from Judy for 9 months, William, a former Marine and retired industrial arts teacher, returned to live in his own apartment while he continues to take care of his ailing wife, who lives four floors above. Every day he travels by elevator to bring her cooked meals, to play games, and spend time with their shared dog Sadie. 

“Its your turn, babe”, Will notes while playing dominoes at the kitchen table upstairs. “Sometimes our short-term memory gets short”. Each day, after dinner and the games are finished, he descends to his apartment four floors below.

William and his wife Judy, who are separated, share the dog between their apartments inside the building. William sleeps in his reclining chair after turning his bedroom into a metal shop.
