History Theatre Portrayals

with Curriculum

Hawaiian Mission Houses has been busy at work developing curriculum to accompany our History Theatre Portrayals!

The dramatic monologues, performed in the first person like short plays, offer a deep dive into the unique perspectives of 19th and early 20th century individuals. The scripts for these theatrical portrayals are researched using primary archival resources, and contain passages in the person's own words from their journals, letters, and newspaper stories. By using the person's own words, we can hear the voices of the past.

Thanks to funding from National Endowment of the Humanities CARES, all the portrayals listed on this page have been pre-recorded and have accompanying inquiry-centered curriculum, packed with curated resources and align with state content standards!

All portrayals with curriculum are available are pre-recorded performances and can be requested via the History Theatre Request Form
