Message from Nurse Laronda, August 2024
I am available to see students from 8am until 2pm. I usually take a lunch break around 2-2:30pm. This is to ensure that all my diabetic students have been seen and serviced. It is also less disruptive to the school environment to break at this time. After lunch, the remainder of the day will be utilized for prep time and emergencies only. Please don't call down for a student to be seen unless it is a emergency (i.e breathing difficulty, bleeding, etc).
If a student needs to see the nurse, please call me at 28339. If I don't answer, please leave a message and I will return the call. Please don't send a student to the nursing office without communicating with me. The student will be returned to class. If it is a emergency, please call safety or the main office and they will connect with me on the walkie.
A Code Blue is someone who is not breathing and is unresponsive. If you notice a person with these symptoms, please call the main office or safety and let them know where the Code Blue is located. If a person is unresponsive or having a medical emergency, please contact the main office and inform them of the location. The main office will notify me and the safety staff that it is a medical emergency so we can respond. I ask that staff please help with crowd control. Please move students away from the emergency and if possible, to an empty room. This will allow staff/ EMT to service the emergency and not be disruptive to the school environment.
If you have a field trip planned and your student receives daily direct services/ medication management, please notify me at lease 2 weeks in advance. This is to ensure that the proper arrangements are made with nursing to provide coverage for the student.
If you have a student that nursing is on the 504/IEP team, please connect with me as soon as possible. I need to have the parents sign a release of information to gain access to medical records. This can take up to 30 days to receive depending on the organization. I need at least a 30-day notice for IEP/504 meeting so I can be prepared with the documents necessary.
16th street will be available to provide services for students. As of right now, I don't know their hours. In the past, they have only been available until 11:30. If a student would like to be seen, please send the student to me first before you send them to Sixteenth Street. There is a fee for 16th street clinic. The parent needs to be in agreement and authorize the student to be seen. The student needs to be registered with the clinic. I also need to make sure that they are available to see the student.
