Preventing Child Abuse and Neglect: Some children may not feel safe at home during the COVID-19 pandemic. The link below provides information on warning signs and how to intervene if you suspect a child is experiencing abuse or neglect.
Non-Suicidal Self-Injury: Self-injury encompasses various behaviors in which an individual purposefully inflicts harm to his or her body for reasons that are not socially recognized. It is performed on any part of the body, but usually occurs on the hands, wrists, stomach, and thighs. It can last for weeks, months, or years. Self-injury may be cyclical in nature meaning that it happens for a length of time, stops, and then resumes. If you suspect that your child or a child you know is self-harming, please refer to one of the resources provided below or reach out to a Curtin support staff member for assistance.
Family Guidebook to Virtual Learning: Learning at home is difficult so MPS made a guide to help ease the transition into virtual schooling. The link below has everything you and your child need to know about how to stay connected and keep learning!

Students with Special Needs: If you suspect that your child may have a disability, please contact the school psychologist, Ms. Cruz. Your child may be eligible for a 504 plan to receive additional accommodations, or be considered for an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) and receive services and specialized instruction in special education. Both plans require comprehensive evaluations by school staff to determine eligibility and are part of a free and public education. Our staff at Curtin is here to help your student succeed in school and in life. If you have any questions or concerns, or would like more information, please contact Ms. Cruz, at 414-902-7777 or by email: cruzcj@milwaukee.k12.wi.us. I can also be contacted via Remind.
