Block Descriptions:
Independent Work Time: This is when all students can work on their assignments from the previous day. Assignments should be done daily so students don’t fall behind, but they are due no later than the Sunday after they are assigned. (For example, if an activity is assigned on Tuesday, Sept. 2, it is due no later than Sunday, Sept. 6).
Small Group Support: Students will continue completing their assignments at this time, but I will be available to support them face to face via Google Meet from 9:30-10:30 if they need help. They just need to click on the Google Meet link on Google Classroom, and I will be on the screen to help. This is also when I will ask individual students to meet me on Google Meet so I can support them in areas in which they are struggling.
Interventions: Students will meet in small groups or work independently on skills in reading and/or math. There will be a schedule for this; I will send it to you when it is completed.
Office Hours: At these times, I will be available for parents to contact me by Remind, email, or Google Meet. This is also when I can respond to messages I have received throughout the day.
Specials (Music, Guidance, Phy Ed, Library, Art): These are classes that are taught by other staff members. Phy Ed and Art are every week; music, guidance, and library will be every other week.
Class Meeting on Google Meet: This is when all the students and I will meet as a group. We will begin by sharing news, then I will teach subject area content and go over other assigned work. Depending on need, some students may move into small groups with other Curtin staff. We will end the meeting by summarizing what we learned, clarify what needs to be done as far as upcoming assignments and/or discuss assignments that students have done. Assignments can be completed right after the meeting, in the evening, or the next morning- whichever is most convenient for your family(independent work time)

Google Meet Expectations
I am looking forward to seeing the students at our daily Google Meets. In order to make sure we can make the most of our time together, I would like the students to understand the following expectations.
● We will be using Google Meet for our class meetings.
It is also posted on Google Classroom and on the 5th grade page of Curtin’s Google Site. Students will need to click on the link to enter the meetings.
● Our meetings will be every school day from 11:30-12:30. During this time, I will be teaching content from the 5th grade standards that your child will need to learn in order to complete her/his online assignments.
● If possible, have your child “attend class” in a quiet area free of distractions.
● Your child should have learning supplies near him/her (pencils, notebooks, etc.)
● I will open the meeting 5-10 minutes before the meeting so students have time to fix any tech issues before we begin.
● I would prefer that your child keep the device’s camera on during our meetings, but if s/he is uncomfortable, I understand. Students can type responses or questions in the chat so that I know they are participating.
● Your child should remain at the meeting for the entire 60 minutes.
● Students should keep their mic muted. They can raise their hand and unmute themselves when it is their turn.
● Students should do their best to pay attention and focus on learning.
● Use the chat feature for academic conversations only. I will give the students time to talk socially at the beginning and end of the meeting.
Week and dates are listed in the upper left corner of each weekly calendar. Our current week and your child's daily assignment schedule should be the first calendar you see, weeks below are weeks we have already completed but feel free to scroll through especially if your child was absent.

Lot's of 5th graders are doing wonderful things in this unique learning environment. They are rising to the occasion. Many have been maintaining 100% attendance and taking the initiative to get their work completed and turned in a timely fashion, I couldn't be more proud of our young people. There is not a specific spotlight to shine this week, but there certainly are a lot of shining stars.
Please make sure you are signed up for Remind to recieve parent communication and know that there is a help desk available after hours if your child needs help on assignments or you have questions. See the main page for details.
