Schedule Changes and Report Cards

SCHEDULE CHANGES

Changes in class schedules are strongly discouraged.  A change request made due to teacher, poor attendance, tardiness, inadequate class participation, failure to do homework or lack of effort will not be approved.

A request for a change in schedule may be honored if the following circumstances are present*:

•  Empty periods in a schedule, created by the unavailability of an offering

•  A teacher-initiated level change made following a conversation with the student and parent/guardian which has been approved by the department chairperson/director

*Understand that changing one course often results in the need to change a student’s entire schedule and even if a teacher approves a change there may not be course offerings available.

*Please follow the MHS chain of command to initiate all schedule changes which states that the student/parent/guardian first contacts the teacher, who contacts the School Counselor.

REPORT CARDS

The school year consists of two semesters.  Each semester is divided into two terms.  Report cards are electronically posted four times a year: November, February, April and June.

MHS uses Powerschool accounts to provide students and families with live grades. The goal of the Milton High School’s live grades is to create an open line of communication between teachers, students and families to more easily work as a team in supporting each student’s learning. The ability to view grades through your Powerschool account provides families more information about what occurs in the classroom, helping them become better equipped to support their student’s strengths and areas of growth.

Live grades through your Powerschool  account will allow you and your student to monitor progress on assignments throughout the school year, and view your students current average to date. As a result of this offering, progress reports are no longer being emailed home, and report cards will be posted in the Powerschool  at the end of each term.

In order to adequately inform students and families of student progress and to allow for the proper follow-up, guidelines have been established for teachers’ posting of grades into Powerschool . Once posted, these grades will be visible to students and their families.
