This is a full year elective designed to create a knowledge base, understanding and appreciation for the role of law in American society, the basic concepts of the different types of law, and law-related careers. Focus areas will include criminal law, intellectual property, the role of juries, wills, contracts and torts.

A major goal of this course will be to reinforce and enhance reading, writing and speaking skills and employ critical thinking to analyze and explain the legal and societal application and consequences of legal principles. A variety of activities designed to develop and enforce these skills will be integrated in the instruction throughout the year. These activities will include debates, current events discussion and analysis, mock trials, individual and group presentations, research projects and simulations.
