CHEMISTRY     Honors 31401      College Prep 31301

5 credits

Prerequisite: Students must have completed Biology I and Algebra, Geometry & Statistics (Course 1) having demonstrated a proficiency in both subjects.  Topics include: properties of matter, atomic structure, periodicity, chemical bonding, chemical reactions and stoichiometry, state of matter, kinetic theory and thermochemistry, solutions, rates of reaction and equilibrium, acids and bases and reduction-oxidation reactions.  Laboratory exercise are an integral part of the course and focus on making observation of chemical reactions, recording data and calculating and interpreting results based on quantitative data obtained during lab exercises, and modeling.
