Prerequisite: Students must have successfully completed Biology and concurrently enrolled in or completed Physical Science OR Chemistry.  

Astronomy is a lab based, semester long, STEM course. We will be studying the composition and structure of the universe along with the conditions, properties, and motions of bodies in space. Foundational concepts essential to astronomy such as gravity, the structure of an atom, the electromagnetic spectrum, nuclear fusion and spectroscopy will be discussed. The course will include, but not be limited to, the following topics; history of astronomy, astronomical instruments, the celestial sphere, the solar system, the earth/moon system, the sun as a star, the life cycle of stars and naked eye observations of the night sky.
