Algebra II

ALGEBRA II College Prep 22305 Honors 22413

5 credits

Prerequisite: Integrated Math II

In both versions of this course, students will deepen and extend their understanding of the algebraic, geometric, and statistical concepts that were addressed in Integrated Math II. Course materials primarily follow the Illustrative Mathematics Algebra II curriculum, which includes units on Sequences and Functions, Polynomial Functions, Statistical Inferences, Complex Numbers and Rational Exponents, Exponential Functions and Equations, Transformations of Functions, and Trigonometric Functions. The Honors version of this course includes a mini-unit on Rational Functions and also extends deeper into several of the overlapping units than the College Prep version.

Emphasis in both versions of the course is placed in four critical areas: (1) performing operations on polynomial expressions; (2) relating data display and summary statistics to probability and exploring a variety of data collection methods; (3) applying a variety of functions to solve contextual problems and create models; and (4) expanding understanding of functions and graphing, including polynomial, radical, exponential, and trigonometric.

Students who excel in Honors Algebra II in 11th grade may, with the recommendation of their teacher, bypass a precalculus course and enroll in Honors Calculus in 12th grade.
