Course Description Overview:
Exploration in Engineering Education provides an opportunity for you to explore science, technology, engineering and/or math (S.T.E.M) concepts utilizing S.T.E.M tools, such as Lego Kits, to create fun yet challenging projects in teams of two or three. Individually, you will take notes and write summaries, reports, and reflections. The class will have an opportunity to participate in science events including S.T.E.M night at Mililani Middle School.

Classroom Rules:
Safety is the most important rule in any workplace, and it is everyone’s responsibility to ensure a safe working environment. All safety rules MUST be followed.
Consequences: The following consequences will be enforced whenever you violate any of the class rules.
1-Warning and discussion of violation and written reflection.
2-Removal from work area, an alternative assignment will be provided and written reflection.
3-Contact your parent(s) and/or referral to the office.

Evaluation and Grading:
You will be evaluated on your participation and application of skills learned in the various modules and projects. This also includes oral presentations, taking notes, completing worksheets, and writing reflections and reports. Absence from class and incomplete work will affect your performance and your attainment of the standards. Acceptance of late work will be at the discretion of the teacher.
Grades will be based on the following grading scale:
A = (Exceeds proficiency – meets and exceeds proficiency in all areas)
B = (Meets – proficient in most areas)
C = (Approaching proficiency – need improvement in some areas)
D=(Developing proficiency – attempted but needs additional support and instruction)
F = (Well below)

Trustworthiness
Learn and follow ALL student expectations.
Come to class on‐time, come prepared, and participate in class discussions and activities.
Complete all work to the best of your ability, and ask questions right away when you don’t understand.
Carry sharp tools/instruments with the sharp end down.
Responsibility
Bring required materials for class (MMS Student Planner, folder paper, pencil(s), eraser(s), pen(s), etc.
Wear covered shoes at ALL times, and wear protective goggles (if necessary).
Remain in assigned work area (whether it is your seat or module).
Report broken equipment.
Respect
Refrain from cursing, harassing, and horseplay.
Misbehavior will not be tolerated.
Follow directions and listen attentively when others are talking.
Keep your body parts and other objects to yourself.
Fairness
Keep your work area clean.
Ask your teacher to approve all your work before moving on.
Allow all students to work on the module.
Caring
Report all injuries to your teacher immediately.
Caution any students you see making unsafe choices or report unsafe behavior to the teacher.
Be kind ‐ treat others the way you would like to be treated.
Citizenship
Respect school and personal property.
Keep areas clean and safe.
Pick up and dispose of unwanted materials in appropriate containers.
Keep all materials and tools from projecting over the edge of tables.
