Hello Wildcat Families!

As the leaves turn and the air grows crisp, it’s hard to believe the first quarter of the school year is already behind us. October has been a season of energy, teamwork, and Wildcat pride! I’m incredibly proud of our students and staff for their dedication both in and out of the classroom.  We are winding down to the end of fall sports seasons with just one regular-season football game left.  Our Junior High boys and girls have already started basketball practices and will be taking the court soon for our first basketball contests of the year.  Once basketball games begin, our gyms will be buzzing and the first semester seems to fly by.  Be sure to check the school website and socials for game schedules and updates.

In the fall, along with our softball, football, and cheer athletes, our Fine Arts department gets the opportunity to showcase their talents and compete in several Saturday parades around the area.  Mr. Gooch and Mrs. Coursey have worked hard with the Emerald Regiment Band and Color Guard this year.  We received many compliments about the Color Guard's indoor performance that they performed during the Homecoming Community Pep Rally and Mr. Gooch push the band to new heights competing in their first field show in this century!  It takes a lot of time and dedication to make these things possible, so kudos to the kids and sponsors for their hard work!

As a reminder, semester grades are LIVE until the end of the semester.  So, the grades you received via email last week probably look different now than they did then.  This is to help students know where they are for earning credit at all times instead of waiting to average two quarters for a semester grade.  The grade students end with in December is the grade that will be reflected on their transcript and will be used to calculate GPA.  While 7th/8th students do not earn a GPA or HS Credits yet, just like the 9th-12th grade students, semester grades are used to determine Mandatory Summer School.  Students failing courses for the semester will be required to attend Summer School in May/June.

I was very pleased to see parents in the building for Parent/Teacher Conferences today, but I strongly encourage you to remain in communication with your student's teachers.  Remember, they are only a call or email away!  We want to work together to help your Wildcat be successful.

I want to thank all parents/guardians for helping us to maintain excellent attendance this school year!  I know cold/flu season is around the corner, but we are truly experiencing some of our best attendance this school year.  Please continue what you're doing to get your kids to school each day and on-time!

  • Overall Attendance: 96.73%

  • 7th Grade: 97.52%

  • 8th Grade: 98.07%

  • 9th Grade: 97.61%

  • 10th Grade: 95.95%

  • 11th Grade: 97.99%

  • 12th Grade: 94.00%

This month, we’ll join schools across the nation in celebrating Red Ribbon Week, a time to promote healthy, drug-free lifestyles and positive decision-making.  Ms. Holt and Mr. Dodson, the building counselors, have been preparing dress up days and activities all of next week to remind students of the importance of leading healthy lifestyles, being drug free, and about positive decision-making.  Please encourage your student to participate in the dress up days.  We know that keeping students drug-free is a shared responsibility between school, families, and the community.  We encourage families to take this opportunity to have open, honest conversations with their teens about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. Together, we can empower our students to lead healthy, successful lives.

I want to be sure to highlight the Veterans Day Assembly that our FFA Chapter hosts and encourage all local Veterans and families of Veterans to attend.  We will begin at 1:30 in the High School Gym on Tuesday, November 11th.  I also want to thank our Wildcat Families for your continued partnership and support.  Your involvement--whether it's attending games, encouraging your kids to get involved in school organizations, or simply keeping up with your students attendance and grades--makes a real difference.  Together, we are creating an environment where every Wildcat can thrive and I couldn't be more proud!

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.” — Will Durant
