Dear Milan Elementary Families,
Dear Families,
It’s hard to believe we are already five weeks into the school year! Our Wildcats are off to a great start, and I’d like to share a few highlights with you.
Each Tuesday morning, our students participate in Positive Behavior Support (PBS) lessons. These lessons focus on what it means to be safe, respectful, and responsible Wildcats in all areas of our school. So far, students have reviewed expectations for the hallway, bathroom, cafeteria, and even how to represent Milan Elementary at after-school events. These lessons help us build a positive, respectful, and consistent school environment.
Students are also taking part in Leader in Me (LIM) lessons twice a week. These direct lessons teach leadership skills, goal setting, and the 7 Habits, giving students the tools they need to lead themselves and positively influence others. Along with this, our LIM Family Meetings have begun. Each family includes a staff member and 13–15 students from K–6, helping students connect beyond their classrooms. Families will take turns planning and leading our Lead Day sessions, with our first Lead Day scheduled for Friday, October 10.
That same day, we will also celebrate Homecoming! Dress-up days and other Homecoming details are outlined in the graphic below—we hope you’ll join in the fun and school spirit.
As we move forward, I want to emphasize the importance of attendance. Each day of school matters, and consistent attendance plays a vital role in your child’s learning and growth. When students are present, they not only keep up with academics but also build friendships, strengthen routines, and take part in leadership opportunities. Thank you for making daily attendance a priority—it truly makes a difference!
This year, our staff and students are working toward some big goals, and we need your partnership to reach them:
60% of students reading on grade level
100% of students showing growth in Literacy from the beginning to the end of the year
75% participation in parent-teacher conferences
Fewer than 100 behavior referrals
📅 Save the Date: Student-Led Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Monday, October 20, from 11:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. More details and appointment availability will be shared by your child’s homeroom teacher. We look forward to our students sharing their progress with you—it’s a powerful way for them to take ownership of their learning.
Thank you for your continued support as we partner together to grow safe, respectful, responsible, and confident leaders at Milan Elementary.
With Wildcat Pride,
Mrs. Hoerrmann
Elementary Principal
My name is Nathan Dodson, and I am the Elementary Counselor at Milan C-2 School District. I am writing to formally remind you that our upcoming Careers on Wheels event, a bi-annual tradition connecting our students with professionals from diverse fields, is just five weeks away.
Fingers are crossed that we can capitalize on the beautiful fall weather conditions. During October and November, our students will be exploring various career pathways in the classroom. The Careers on Wheels event will serve as a culminating activity, providing them with the opportunity to meet real-life professionals who can bring these career paths to life.
We are seeking enthusiastic volunteers who are willing to:
* Share their career experiences with elementary students.
* Provide a hands-on demonstration, item, or visual aid (such as tools, equipment, or a vehicle) to illustrate a typical day in their profession.
* Engage students with enthusiasm, explaining concepts in an accessible manner for young learners.
**Event Details**
* Date: FRIDAY, October 17, 2025
* Time: 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM (approx.)
