Hello Wildcat Families!

As the leaves turn and we embrace the November chill, I am reminded of how fortunate we are to be part of a community that values service, gratitude, and unity. This month brings several meaningful opportunities for our students to learn, lead, and give back.   In the month of November, the High School building has two significant events that truly embody our school’s values of service and honor: our annual Veterans Day assembly, proudly hosted by our FFA Chapter, and our building-wide canned food drive to support those in need.

The Veterans Day ceremony featured heartfelt speeches, a moving tribute to local veterans in attendance, and patriotic musical performances by both our Elementary and High School's student body, band, and choir. Our FFA members demonstrated exceptional leadership and respect in ensuring that the veterans present felt appreciated and celebrated.  We extend our deepest thanks to all who attended and to our FFA chapter for their outstanding efforts. If you have a Sullivan County Hero who was not represented in this year's video, please email pictures/information to jsayre@milan.k12.mo.us or bring them into the High School Office and we will scan and return your pictures back to you.

Throughout the month of November, we will be collecting canned goods to support the local senior center and community food pantry. This is the High School building's fourth year of supporting these organizations that provide essential resources to individuals and families across our area--our students have an opportunity to make an immediate, positive impact.

Students will be turning in their canned donations in to their CAT class (homeroom), and we will hold a friendly competition to see which class can bring in the most items!  Our building is teaming up with the Milan Athletic Booster Club for the Meet the Wildcats event on Friday, November 21st and asked all attending to bring one canned food item as their entry fee. Every can counts, and together we can help ensure that our community members have what they need this holiday season!

I want to take a quick moment to recognize a great group of students who have been doing big things, the Student Leadership Council.  They have been busy this fall and have been bringing new traditions to our building almost weekly.   Their events so far include:

  • Post Game on Wildcat Lane (Student fun night after Homecoming Game)

  • Coffee in the Car Line

  • National Dessert observance

  • Rock Paper Scissors building competition

They are currently working on:

  • Neon Glow Volleyball (Student fun night after Meet the Wildcats)

  • Caroling Characters

  • Adopt-a-Child within our school community

  • Christmas Kickoff (Student fun activities during the school day on December 19th)

As you can see, they have really hit the ground running this year and I could not be more proud of them! I can't wait to see what they come up with second semester!

Another group that has been working exceptionally hard is our senior class!  They set a lofty goal to be able to go to the beach for a couple of days for their senior trip.  They set the goal in May and have been putting in the work to raise money to do so since.  They really hit the ground running and are nearing their goal.  They do have two big fundraisers in the next couple of weeks.

First, the Elks Lodge is helping them out by hosting a Soup Lunch this Sunday, November 23rd 11AM-1:30PM at the Elks Lodge.  If you are able to come up and enjoy some delicious soup and leave them a donation, they would greatly appreciate it!

Their other fundraiser is ongoing until December 2nd.  They are selling $10 raffle tickets for the chance to win two Chiefs vs Chargers tickets,  a Yeti cooler full of frozen beef, a designer bag from NYC, or other prizes.

They will draw for the winners at the December 2nd basketball game vs Mercer between games.  Make sure sure to enter for a chance to win AND attend to see if your name is drawn.

As a reminder, next week we WILL be in session on Monday, November 24th and Tuesday, November 25th and off until we return on Tuesday, December 2nd.  As Thanksgiving approaches, I want to express my appreciation for our students, staff, and families. Your continued support and partnership help make our school a place where students feel safe, valued, and empowered to grow.

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.” — Will Durant
