Developmental Adapted Physical Education (DAPE) provides specially designed physical education instruction and services for children ages 3–22 with disabilities that significantly affect their physical development and/or gross motor skills. DAPE may include the development of physical fitness, fundamental motor skills, movement patterns, and skills for individual and group sports and games, dance, and aquatic activities.
DAPE adapts and modifies physical education activities, equipment, instruction, and the environment to meet each student's individual needs. The goal is to ensure every student can safely and successfully participate in physical education alongside their peers, and improve gross motor movement where needed.
