S.O.A.R.

Success Oriented Academic Resource

The SOAR program is a structured support environment to help students succeed with their core elective classes.

All levels of SOAR are enrolled through a referral process. 9th grade students in SOAR have been identified as meeting specific criteria by 8th grade teachers. These 9th graders will additionally complete extra study skills activities during their SOAR study hall and can earn up to .5 elective credit per semester their freshman year.

Other students, grades 9-12, can later be referred to SOAR study hall by their classroom teachers. These students become eligible for the SOAR program upon a referral by regular education teachers and a placement decision made by the Problem-Solving Team. This team is comprised of high school administration, school counselors, and other student support staff. Students are referred by regular education teachers after attempting Tier 1 interventions, meeting with the student, and contacting the parents in an effort to first improve student performance in a given class. Those students identified as needing additional support by their teachers will be placed in a SOAR study hall for a varying duration, depending upon their needs and progress in classes. Students moving back into typical study halls will then be placed on the SOAR monitor list for at least the rest of the semester or until a consistently successful academic standing is maintained.
