WI Technical Excellence Scholarship Criteria, Eligibility, and Qualifications

The number of scholarships to be awarded is determined by statute. Mount Horeb High School will select the recipient of the Academic Excellence Higher Education Scholarship by February 15th each year. The recipient and alternate GPAs shal include the same number of places past the decimal point that the high school normally uses on the official high school transcript. Should a recipient decide to decline the scholarship, they and their parents must sign a release for an alternate to receive the scholarship

Determining Criteria

Students shall be rank-ordered based on their cumulative grade point average (GPA) for the first seven semesters of their high school career. The recipients shall be those with the two highest grade point averages.

Tie-Breaking Criteria

The high school faculty shall determine, and have in writing, a process that describes the tie-breaking procedures and criteria used to determine the scholars and alternates and to put them in rank order. Said policy is attached as Exhibit 1.

Qualifications


a. Be a CTE Concentrator, defined as completing at least three (3) high school CTE courses in program area(s) in the student’s chosen pathway. The candidate can be enrolled in their third course at the time of their nomination. 

b. Participated in a Youth Apprenticeship Program under the supervision of the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. 

c. Participation in a Technical High School Diploma program as certified by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. 

d. Participation in a Career and Technical Training pathway as defined by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. 

e. Participation in a Skills Standards Program offered by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. 

f. Completed or be on track to complete an industry-recognized certification program approved under Wis. Stats. §115.367(2). 

g. Participation in a Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) in Wisconsin: DECA, FBLA, FCCLA, FFA, HOSA, or SkillsUSA.

h. Completion of a technical training program for high school students if the program is offered by a UW System school, a Wisconsin Technical College System school, a tribal college in Wisconsin, or a private nonprofit college or university located in Wisconsin.
