Saturday, March 9, 2024 @ Mt. Horeb Middle School
All of our events will take place at Mt. Horeb Middle School, address is 900 E Garfield St. in Mt. Horeb. Buses can drop off in the front of the school at the main entrance on Garfield St., then park in the parking lot in the side/rear of the building.
Homeroom (Step Room off of the Commons)
Once you arrive, enter the commons area and follow the signs to the Step Room; this will be our Homeroom for the day.
You can leave all of your coats, cases, bags, etc. in that room.
Warmup Room (Band Room)
Warmups for your band take place in the Band Room.
We will have a drumset, piano, and bass amp in the room to use.
You have 40 minutes, but don’t feel like you need to use all of it.
Performance/Clinic (Gym)
The performance area will be in our gymnasium.
You will have 40 minutes total between your performance, clinic, setup, and tear-down
Two clinicians will listen to your band and give you comments. Please make sure to have two copies of your scores for both clinicians to look at while you play!
We will have chairs and stands ready to go, and I’ll have a few Mt. Horeb students on hand to help with chair shuffling. We will have an acoustic piano, drumset/cymbals, bass amp, and guitar amp for you to use. There will also be two solo mics as well. If you need something else (vibes, hand drums, etc.) please let me know and I can have them ready for you.
This is also where we'll have students watch other bands perform.
Workshop (Choir Room)
One of our clinicians will lead a jazz workshop for students, please bring instruments for this portion!
Lunch (Commons)
Students can plan on getting a sub sandwich, fruit, chips, cookies, and lemonade/water.
We won’t do tickets for students, but please let them know only those who paid for lunch should go through the line.
Lunch is also included for directors.

"BLUES mACHINE" by michael sweeney
This piece is a middle school jazz band classic, and it's been around a while; Mr. Dorner even played this when he was in middle school jazz band! This recording is done by professionals, and the solos are played by professional jazz musicians, so use this as a great practice tool.

"Poco Loco" by Carl Strommen
This piece is a Mt. Horeb MS Jazz classic! Hundreds of MS Jazz students have played this piece with us, and it's still fun to play and teach.
