The biggest success in Thomas Jefferson's presidency was the purchase of the Louisiana Territory from Napoleon. This more than doubled the size of the United States! With the success of Lewis and Clark's expedition, many people started moving westward. Another success of his happened before he was even president. Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence! His biggest fiasco was the Embargo Act. This forbade the export and import of goods. This ended terribly and people hated it!

Spain signed an earlier agreement to give Louisiana to France which made Jefferson worried. Jefferson made an offer to Napoleon to buy all of the land for $15 million. They agreed. Jefferson sent Lewis and Clark (The Lewis and Clark expedition) to explore the new lands and find trade routes through the Pacific. With the help of Sacagawea, Lewis and Clark made it to the Pacific and back home to report the tales of the west.
