Symphonic Band

8th Grade Marching Camp

Tuesday-Thursday, April 21-23, 2026

This evening event is designed exclusively for 8th-grade band students to learn the fundamentals of the Burnt Orange Band. Students will work directly with high school directors and student leaders to master the basics of posture and marching movement.

Location: West Mesquite High School
Pick-up Time: 7:30 PM

Schedule and Transportation

• Departure: A one-way bus will be provided to West Mesquite HS, departing at 4:40 PM.

• Pick-up: Parents/guardians must pick up their students at West Mesquite HS promptly at 7:30 PM.

• Food: Please note that students will not be fed during this event; please plan accordingly.
  
  

Attire and Equipment
Because students will be stretching and moving outdoors, proper attire is essential for safety and performance:

• Clothing: Athletic or PE-style clothing that allows for easy movement and is appropriate for the temperature.

• Footwear: Proper athletic shoes with laces are required. For safety reasons, students may not wear boots, Crocs, slides, or sandals.

• Hydrate: Students should bring their own water jug or bottle to keep on the sideline for water breaks.

• Sun Protection (Optional): Sunglasses, hats, or caps are encouraged for outdoor activity.

Weather Contingency
This event is scheduled to take place outside. In the event of inclement weather, the camp will be moved to an indoor location at the high school. Any questions should be directed to Mrs. Jennifer Borders, Director of Bands at West Mesquite HS.

Solo & Ensemble @ West Mesquite HS

Saturday, April 25, 2026

Solo & Ensemble provides students the opportunity to perform for a professional judge and earn medals for their musical achievement. Individual performance times will be announced closer to the event date.

Schedule and Arrival

• Arrival: Students should arrive at West Mesquite HS at least 20 minutes prior to their scheduled performance time.

• Departure: Students are free to leave immediately following the conclusion of their performance.

• Wear: Students should arrive looking clean and presentable. Please wear professional clothing such as slacks, dress shirts, or blouses. Please, no pajamas, sweatpants, or joggers for this event.

• Scheduling Requests: If a student has a specific time constraint or commitment on the morning of April 25, please contact Mr. Villegas. Accommodations can easily be made. Performance times can be found here.

Logistics and Requirements

• Transportation: Because performance times vary by student, no bus transportation will be provided. Families are responsible for their own travel.

• Six Flags Eligibility: Participation in Solo & Ensemble is a mandatory requirement for any student wishing to attend the end-of-year Six Flags trip.

8th Grade Marching Band Registration
8th-grade students who intend to join the marching band next year will also undergo the registration process on this day in the library at West Mesquite HS. 

Spring Trip
Saturday, May 16, 2026

We will celebrate our great year by taking our spring trip to Six Flags Over Texas! 

• Cost: $45 (Includes park admission and unlimited rides).

• Food: Students will need to bring additional money for meals/snacks inside the park.

• Schedule: We will be at the park from 2:00 PM – 8:30 PM, returning to Balch Springs around 9:45 PM.

• Payment: Pay online via TouchBase or send cash/check (payable to AC New Band) with your student. Receipts will be issued for all payments.

Requirements: To join us on this trip, students must meet the following criteria:

1. Participation: Attend UIL and Solo & Ensemble.

2. Conduct: Students must not be assigned to ISS from Spring Break through May 17. 

3. Band fees: Students must have paid the $40 band fee (most families paid for this in October)

We are looking for parent volunteers to join us! As a thank you, volunteers will receive a discounted $20.00 ticket. You are not required to ride the bus; you may follow in your own vehicle or meet us at the park.

• Low-Stress: Responsibilities are minimal. You will not be asked to follow student groups around all day.

• Requirement: An MISD background check is required. Use the online application located here.

Spring Concert

Thursday, May 21, 2026

We are excited to showcase the hard work of all four of our bands. Please note that the Beginner Band students will be combining to perform as one large group for this event.

Event Details:

• Time: 6:30 PM (Admission is free!)

• Location: The Large Gym at AC New (where basketball/volleyball games are held).

• Parking: Please use the lot between the school and the tennis courts and enter through Door 5.

Student Expectations:

• Attendance: This is a mandatory performance for all students.

• Attire: We want our students to "dress to impress!" Please ensure your student is in professional concert attire. Please avoid shorts, pajama pants, or sweatpants.

After-School Schedule: The band hall will close at 4:00 PM. Students are expected to go home and return at the following times:

• Beginner Band: Return at 5:45 PM

• Concert Band and Symphonic Band: Return at 6:10 PM

• Honors Band: Return at 6:20 PM 

Staying After School: If your student needs to stay after school due to transportation or work schedules, they are welcome to wait in the band hall.

• Expectations: Students staying after will assist with concert setup and have a designated quiet/study time.

• Food: Dinner will not be provided; please send your student with a snack if they will be staying through the evening.

Este evento está diseñado exclusivamente para que los estudiantes de banda de octavo grado aprendan los fundamentos de la "Burnt Orange Band". Contingencia Climática

Este evento está programado para realizarse al aire libre. En caso de mal tiempo, el campamento se trasladará a una ubicación interior dentro de la preparatoria.

Solo y Conjunto en West Mesquite HS

Solo y Conjunto ofrecen a los estudiantes la oportunidad de presentarse ante un juez profesional y ganar medallas por sus logros musicales. Los horarios de participación individual se anunciarán al acercarse la fecha del evento.

Horario y Llegada

• Llegada: Los estudiantes deben llegar a West Mesquite HS al menos 20 minutos antes de su hora programada.

• Salida: Los estudiantes pueden retirarse inmediatamente después de terminar su presentación.

• Vestimenta: Los estudiantes deben presentarse con una apariencia limpia y profesional. Se requiere ropa formal, como pantalones de vestir, camisas de botones o blusas. No se permiten pijamas, pantalones deportivos (sweatpants) o joggers para este evento.

• Peticiones de Horario: Si un estudiante tiene un compromiso previo la mañana del 25 de abril, favor de contactar al Sr. Villegas. Se pueden hacer ajustes. Encuentran los tiempos de tocar aqui. 

Logística y Requisitos

• Transporte: Debido a que los horarios varían por estudiante, no habrá servicio de autobús. Las familias son responsables de su propio transporte.

• Elegibilidad para Six Flags: La participación en Solo y Ensamble es un requisito obligatorio para cualquier estudiante que desee asistir al viaje de fin de año a Six Flags.

Registro de Banda de Marcha (8.º Grado)

Los estudiantes de octavo grado que planean unirse a la banda de marcha el próximo año también realizarán su proceso de registro este día en la biblioteca de West Mesquite HS.

¡Celebraremos nuestro gran año con un viaje a Six Flags Over Texas!

• Costo: $45 (Incluye la entrada al parque y juegos ilimitados).

• Comida: Los estudiantes deberán traer dinero adicional para comidas o refrigerios dentro del parque.

• Horario: Estaremos en el parque de 2:00 PM a 8:30 PM, regresando a Balch Springs aproximadamente a las 9:45 PM.

• Pago: Puede pagar en línea a través de TouchBase o enviar efectivo/cheque (a nombre de AC New Band) con su estudiante. Se emitirán recibos por todos los pagos.
  
  

Requisitos de Participación

Para asistir a este viaje, los estudiantes deben cumplir con los siguientes criterios:

1. Participación: Asistir a UIL y a Solo y Ensamble.

2. Conducta: No haber sido asignado a ISS (suspensión interna) desde las vacaciones de primavera hasta el 17 de mayo.

3. Cuotas de Banda: Haber pagado la cuota de banda de $40 (la mayoría de las familias realizaron este pago en octubre).
   
   

Voluntarios (Padres de Familia)

¡Buscamos voluntarios! Como agradecimiento, los voluntarios recibirán un boleto con descuento de $20.00. No es obligatorio ir en el autobús; puede seguirnos en su propio vehículo o reunirnos en el parque.

• Nivel de estrés bajo: Las responsabilidades son mínimas; no se le pedirá que siga a los grupos de estudiantes todo el día.

• Requisito: Se requiere una verificación de antecedentes de MISD. Complete la solicitud en línea disponible en el sitio web del distrito.

Concierto de Primavera

Estamos emocionados de presentar el trabajo de nuestras cuatro bandas. Tenga en cuenta que los estudiantes de la Banda de Principiantes (Beginner Band) se combinarán para presentarse como un solo grupo grande.

Detalles del Evento

• Hora: 6:30 PM (¡La entrada es gratuita!)

• Ubicación: Gimnasio Grande de AC New (donde se juegan los partidos de baloncesto/voleibol).

• Estacionamiento: Utilice el lote entre la escuela y las canchas de tenis e ingrese por la Puerta 5.

Expectativas para el Estudiante

• Asistencia: Esta es una presentación obligatoria para todos los estudiantes.

• Vestimenta: Queremos que nuestros estudiantes "vistan para impresionar". Asegúrese de que su estudiante use vestimenta profesional de concierto. Evite el uso de pantalones cortos (shorts), pantalones de pijama o pantalones deportivos.

Horario Después de Clase

La sala de banda cerrará a las 4:00 PM. Se espera que los estudiantes vayan a casa y regresen a las siguientes horas:

• Beginner Band: Regresar a las 5:45 PM

• Concert Band y Symphonic Band: Regresar a las 6:10 PM

• Honors Band: Regresar a las 6:20 PM

Permanencia en la escuela: Si su estudiante necesita quedarse en la escuela después de clases debido al transporte o horarios de trabajo, puede esperar en la sala de banda.

• Expectativas: Los estudiantes que se queden ayudarán con la preparación del concierto y tendrán un tiempo designado para estudiar en silencio.

• Comida: No se proporcionará cena; por favor envíe un refrigerio con su estudiante si se quedará toda la tarde.
