Band classes
The Band students participate in a Symphonic Band, a Concert Band, a Beginning Band, a pep band, and a drum line. Each class provides opportunities for individual and group development.
Honors BAND
The Honors Band is the advanced band at AC New Middle School. Placement in this band is by audition only. Honors Band students perform in several seasonal concerts throughout the year.
The fall season centers around football games and pep rally performances. These performances are always combined with the Symphonic Band to form a pep band for large events. The winter season includes a holiday concert, a recruitment concert, and our Winter Tour. The early spring is contest season. Several contests and festivals define this busy time of year with a variety of performances and festivals. Events include district-level evaluations, the UIL Concert & Sight Reading Evaluation, and Solo & Ensemble. The end-of-the-year brings a final concert and auditions for the upcoming school year.
The All-City Band (MISD) and the All-Region Band contests provide students with the chance to compete individually against their peers in district-level and region-level contests.

BEGINNER BAND
The Beginner Band is the entry level class for all incoming band students. Any 6th, 7th, or 8th grader with an interest in learning how to play instrument can sign up for Concert Band. Beginner band classes are mostly taught in instrument-specific classes and come together for the holiday concert, spring concert, and festival performances.
The first semester of beginner band prepares students for individual and group playing experiences. Emphasis is placed on basic music reading and playing with a characteristic tone. Additional emphasis is placed on work ethic, team building, and personal responsibility. The second semester continues forward with plenty of music reading and tonal development. Students participate in a Solo & Ensemble Contest at the end of April.
At the conclusion of the year, all students will try out for a chair in either the Symphonic or Concert Band. Students will be placed in the band that will serve them in becoming the best musician they can be!
