What is band?
Band is a class made up of many musical instruments, but does not include strings and does not include voice. In band, you will learn many new things—like how to read music and how to play an instrument. The band performs in several concerts and competitions to win trophies and medals throughout the year.

How do I decide which instrument to play?
When you select band as your first choice elective, you will meet with a band director to find out which instrument works best for you. Sometimes this is your first choice instrument, and sometimes it’s not…and that’s ok! There are 11 different instruments to choose from and one of them is perfect for YOU. These instruments include: flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, and percussion.

Students are encouraged to get their own instruments. There are many ways to rent and/or purchase an instrument. Some large instruments are provided by the school district including the tuba, baritone, french horn, as well as the oboe and bassoon. No matter which instrument you end up learning, there are several ways to get one for you!.

Whether for fun, reward, or competition, the band has many trips & parties throughout the year! Trips and parties that we have done in the past include:

There are over 800 students who attend AC New. When you are a member of the band,you will have the opportunity to start friendships with people who will enjoy the same things as you: making music and playing an instrument.
