ORIENTATION
On the 1st day of the rotation, please meet your Supervisor (Dr. Gagnon, Lee, McLeod, or St. Onge) for Orientation according to instructions in the Orientation email sent by the McMaster Geriatrics Program. Orientation may occur in one of the following ways:
1) In Person: 3FB Conference Room (F342; 3rd Floor Fontbonne Building)
You will need to get to the 3rd floor of the Fontbonne Building at SJH. This building is located immediately beside the Visitors' Parking Garage.
Once you are in the Fontbonne Building, head toward the Outpatient Dept & Lab (on the main floor). Just before you reach the Outpatient Dept/Lab, take the elevators across from the satellite Tim Hortons (which is closed) to the third floor.
Turn LEFT out of the elevators and go down the hallway. The conference room (F342) should be on the right side of the hallway, toward the end.
There is a keycode for the room, so your supervisor will need to let you into the room.
2) Virtually (via Zoom, or similar), by signing into a meeting invitation sent by your Supervisor. The timing of this Orientation will depend on Dovetale training schedules, etc.
Drs. Lee, McLeod & St. Onge meet at 09:00h; Dr. Gagnon meets at 08:00h.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE)
All SJH staff (including residents and students) are required to wear (at minimum) a Level 3 Procedure Masks at all times, in all clinical and non-clinical areas, unless eating or alone in a non-clinical room, such as an office. Please bring a clean mask with you each day to don upon entry. They are also available upon entry to the hospital.
Any wards in "Outbreak" or "High Alert" status require the use of N95 masks at all times. You may also choose to wear an N95 mask elsewhere in the hospital.
N95 Masks are often available on the wards. You may also pick up additional masks at the "PPE Depot", which is located in the Mary Grace, on the first floor (room G116).
Click HERE for more recommendations from SJH re staff safety.
As of June 2022, eye protection is no longer required for routine face-to-face patient interactions at SJH. This will differ on "Outbreak" or "High Alert" wards, and when seeing patients who are at high risk (or confirmed +ve) for COVID-19 infection.
If you would like to wear a face shield, there are often shields available on the inpatient wards. More face shields can also be obtained from the "PPE Depot" of the first floor of the main building, near the Wound/Ostomy Centre. Please ask a team member for directions if needed.
These face shields can be re-used by wiping them with disinfectant wipes upon leaving a patient's room. (However, a face shield should be disposed after a single use if you have entered a room with "enhanced droplet precautions".)
