CSF stands for California Scholarship Federation and is a statewide nonprofit organization. They recognize and encourage students' academic achievement. This club is an honor society meaning admission to the club has grade requirements. Students interested in the club have to submit an application with their report card attached to prove they meet the grade requirement. The club encourages students to strive for academic success and do community service. But this club is more than just a service club; they assist students in finding scholarships. They help students find opportunities for learning and service outside of school. By bringing students on field trips to colleges they help students recognize their options after high school and helping them get there.
In recent years the club has gone on field trips to many schools trying to promote a wide variety of schools to address the diverse interests of the students who make up the club. Some of the schools they have gone on field trips to recently include San Francisco State University, which has a very good business program and is close to home for many students in the club. They went to University of California Berkeley which is one of the top schools in the country and is not too far of a trip from our school. They have also been to California State University San Jose which has a very good business and engineering program and University of California Davis which has a globally renowned agriculture and veterinary program. All of these field trips provide the students with knowledge of colleges in the area. Also giving the students the opportunity to ask someone who has first hand experience questions they might have about what it's like attending that school, what programs are available, or what the facilities are like. These field trips make higher education seem more accessible and can give students goals that the club can help them achieve.
The club is also very focused on providing service opportunities for the club members so they can either get the service hours required as a senior or just be an active participant in helping the community. Every year the club participates in the school wide food drive called scare away hunger where they pass out pater bags to the neighborhoods around the school with fliers asking for non perishable goods. Then on Halloween instead of hanging out with their friends the students go around collecting the bags of food and bringing them to the food bank to help feed people in need. This is the biggest of the surviving events but they have done many other things like volunteering at the food bank organizing and handing out food. They also recently had an event helping at a park distributing mulch and helping the gardens. This event was attended by other service groups and the club had the amazing opportunity to meet the mayor of Concord. The club leadership worked hard to create as many community service opportunities for the members some other ones include a recent shoe drive and summer volunteer opportunities at the library.
