Our school is a comprehensive school in German. It was founded in 1987 and has about 1150 pupils and about 102 teachers. The ages of the pupils range between ten and nineteen. The school not only has an academic focus which allows some of the pupils to pass the final high-school examination (Abitur) and go on to university but also offers practice-oriented learning which prepares students for further career-based training.
Langerwehe is a small town of 13,500 inhabitants, close to the borders to Belgium and the Netherlands. Our students come from Langerwehe or from the vicinity. Our school was certified as Europaschule in 2010/11. According to our "school programm", we want to prepare our students for a life as a responsible citizen in a united Europe and want to offer them as many experiences as possible in foreign countries. This means, we encourage our students to learn about versatility and the commonalities of European countries. Intercultural competence is part of the lessons, especially our language classes, our bi-lingual language lessons, and the many international projects and exchanges we have been organising and particpating in over twenty years with Comenius or Erasmus+. We also offer individual foreign experiences, like international internships.
