Our Europaschule Herzogenrath is uniquely located in the the heart of the Euregio Maas-Rhein which is in the South West of North Rhine-Westphalia right at the Dutch and Belgian boarder.
So, it is no surprise that our school has an accounted European and (inter-)cultural profile, accompanied by the approach of a “good healthy school for all kids”.
Currently, we count up to 1056 students and 95 colleagues from different countries working and living here.
Our European contacts promote a wide range of activities in different areas of our pupils’ personal lives and working experiences which enable them to develop their own life plans. We encourage their European competence primarily through conveying Europe-related knowledge and the awareness of the cultural differences.
We empower an intense communication in foreign languages through modern media and their active participation on an international level. Starting from 5th grade, our pupils learn - alongside English - a second foreign language (Spanish, French or Dutch) as a means of communication.
They get a deeper impression of the routine of people in Belgium, France, Spain or the Netherlands through short trips and virtual or personal encounters with students from these countries. As a Cultural School we have been promoting creative and expressive talents of our pupils through collaborations with artists and professionals from theatres, museums and cultural facilities for over ten years.
Furthermore, many of our teachers come with advanced knowledge in organising, conducting and evaluating international projects which we want to implement into our project “Circus of Emotions”. Of particular importance are the experiences from the last Erasmus+ Key Action 1: More than 20 colleagues visited and observed partner schools abroad in order to deepen their qualifications in the area of inclusion.
All this experience combined with our earned qualifications contribute to our current Erasmus+ Key Action 2 project “Circus of Emotions”. We are confident that its focus will not only be an addition to our subject “Drama and Design”, but our school community as a whole, especially for students with emotional handicaps.
