The Hayseeders Ball is the one of the last of seven other Balls around the Island, the Hayseesers and the Waybackers are the only ones still active today. The ball is 125 years old as of this year. Thousands of memories reside within and today that spirit is still alive.
In this new age, with the rise of equality and women empowerment, I spoke with several women who have been trying to speak out about why there isn't any women Hayseeders. Only men members, wives could attend with the members, and widows of former Hayseeders could attend, but women could not become members, and they want change. With hopes of change, I hope they succeed.
With the amount of friendly encounters at the Ball I can feel the sense of community amongst the people on the Island. It was such a happy, uplifting attitude the whole night, everyone was friendly and telling old stories. It felt like I was transported back in time. That feeling is what the Ball is supposed to give people. In this modern age, broadcasting this message will help keep it alive for generations to come.
With this website, I have hopes to get the word about the Ball out there. I hope more people care about it like I have these past few months.
