French Navigator, Samuel de Champlain, stumbled upon Mount Desert when It was only a rock in the ocean. He raced back to Henry IV of France who granted the expedition to Champlain in 1603 and from then until 1610 Champlain traveled all over what they knew as Acadia in search for Colonization. He left colonists, sailors, priests, from France all over Acadia in search for a home. Many died due to weather conditions in the winter. Those who thrived, built and colonized, such as those on Mount Desert. They made peace with fellow Indians previously on the Island before, they fought as English stormed in and lost, but the wheels turn on as MDI flourishes culturally, economically and spiritually throughout the centuries.
