I knew I wanted a strong connection to culture because the majority of people I spoke with talked about how the ball makes them feel at home. They feel so comfortable and relaxed having been to the Ball. It's a huge part of a lot of peoples' lives and I wanted to broadcast that message.
My question changed so many times because every time I would meet with someone or read an article, I would gain another piece of the history and it would make me think about the whole thing differently. When I spoke with the historical society, I was taken back in time with the articles but when I met with Norma, she showed me a very deep meaningful personal side to the Ball. So I knew it had to be more centralized around the tradition and how everyone strives to keep it alive.
This photo I have is a much older photograph, taken at the Wayback Ball back in the early to mid 1900's.
This photograph was taken just this past March. I attended the Ball and met this fine group of Hayseeder's. 2019
