Malate catholic school commemorates former head of the church

On the 31st of December, 2022, former Pope Benedict XVI, died at the Vatican's Mater Ecclesiae Monastery. His body is now awaiting burial at St. Peter’s Basilica. Rest in peace to His Holiness, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, the 264th successor of Saint Peter as the head of the church.

Upon the passing of the Pope Emeritus, with due regard and respect for him and solidarity with the church, on the 3rd of January, 2022, Malate Catholic School put up a commemorative display for His Holiness at the side of the school’s chapel near the campus entrance and exit.

Upon the passing of the Pope Emeritus, with due regard and respect for him and solidarity with the church, on the 3rd of January, 2022, Malate Catholic School put up a commemorative display for His Holiness at the side of the school’s chapel near the campus entrance and exit. 


According to the campus minister, Mr. Frankmar Cabeltis, the placement was chosen to maintain the sanctity of the memorial, as well as to allow the students and staff to see his image, which serves as a reminder of fellowship and for prayer, especially for his soul.


The commemoration by Malate Catholic School will remain until the 6th of January, 2023, a full day after the formal funeral of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI.


The funeral mass presided over by Pope Francis for former Pope Benedict XVI was held on the 5th of January, 2023 at St. Peter’s Square, 3 A.M.  EST and 9 A.M  RT. He was buried at the papal tombs under St. Peter's Basilica.
