No. As our training period at the beginning the year is not repeated in semester 2, you must take 1A in order to take 1B

Yes! As long as you were in Child Development 1A to receive the training, you can continue on to Child Development 2 without taking Child Development 1B.

No. You must take all 4 semesters to be eligible for the certification. In addition you must have a 90% attendance rate and receive an A or B each semester, as well as submitting your portfolio at the end of Child Development 2B

Will I need to work on artifacts outside of class for my portfolio in order to receive my Maryland State 90+9 Clock Hour Certification?

No. All artifacts needed for the portfolio will be done in class. Students will need to save all assignments and artifacts in their portfolio in the correct order to receive a pass on their portfolio.

No. There is no prerequisite for the internship. The Child Development classes will be useful to your internship experience, but are not required.

Where can I intern?
Where can I intern?
Most students intern in one of our feeder elementary schools (Cold Spring ES, Fallsmead ES, Lakewood ES, Stone Mill ES, Dufief ES, Travilah ES)

Yes! The middle schools can be an option as well as the special education classes at Wootton. Other placement sites can be coordinated and approved as well.

Can I intern in a music, art, special education, or PE class at an elementary or middle school, or can I only intern in a grade level classroom?
Can I intern in a music, art, special education, or PE class at an elementary or middle school, or can I only intern in a grade level classroom?
Yes, you can intern in any type of classroom. You need to keep in mind though that there is usually only one teacher for each of these subjects at each school. The teacher’s schedule may not align with our internship time, or that teacher may not want to take on an intern. You will likely need to be flexible in which school you are willing to intern in if you would like a specific class. We will do our best to find you a placement!

No. Many of our interns walk to Fallsmead ES or Frost Middle school. Some of our interns have been able to take the Ride On bus to Lakewood. Interns are also permitted to work in the special education department at Wootton. Many interns have also found carpools to their internship as multiple students often intern at the same school.

No. You do not need a travel period for the Education Internship. Interns are given 25 minutes travel time at the beginning of 7th period to sign out, walk to your car, and arrive at your internship. You should be able to arrive at all of our feeder schools within that time frame.
