College Entrance Exams

There are two college entrance exams, the ACT (American College Test) and the SAT I, II (Scholastic Assessment Test), which are used for admission, placement, and scholarships.

Check with colleges which you are interested in attending to see if they require the ACT or SAT I and/or SAT II.  Registration forms are available in the College & Career Center and online.  Students who must test on a Sunday for religious reasons should check websites or Registration Bulletins for required documentation, locations, and dates of offered exams.

Which Test Should I Take?

Testing

SVHS is an official test center for the SAT I and SAT II and ACT.  The SAT is given in the county seven times each year with SV testing three out of the seven dates. Registration information with dates and other test sites are available in the College & Career Center or online.

Greetings from the A. James Clark School of Engineering!

I hope this email finds you well as we all push to wrap up the academic year!  I understand that it is a very busy time of year with testing, graduation, and summer preparation underway.  I wanted to reach out again to express our interest in recruiting your students for our Pre-College Scholars Program. We are now reviewing applications and accepting students on a rolling basis until June 30th.   Below, is a small description of the program, if you would like to send it out to your networks.  Please note that the program will take place in-person, on the campus of the University of Maryland, this year.  For more information, please feel free to visit Pre-College Scholars Program.  Your support is greatly appreciated!

The goal of the Clark School Pre-College Scholars Program is to recruit talented students to attend the A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland.  It prepares students to perform well on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (S.A.T.) and provides students and families with the tools and strategies necessary to navigate the college application process.  For the upcoming program, which will occur in the summer of 2023, we are recruiting current 10th and 11th graders (rising juniors and seniors) who have an interest in engineering.  I have attached a program flyer for your review and dissemination to qualified students. Additional information can also be found at https://eng.umd.edu/k-12-pre-college/scholars-program.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via email at futureengineer@umd.edu.  Thank you and we look forward to receiving applications from your talented students.

Update on SAT/ACT Administration for MCPS Students

https://news.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/quicknotes/update-on-sat-act-administration-for-mcps-students/

MCPS and College Board are moving forward with plans for offering the SAT to registered students on September 26 and October 3 at select MCPS test centers. For students not already registered, registration for October 3 remains open until September 22 here. In order to limit group sizes, additional test centers have been added to spread out students, which may result in students being assigned to a different test center nearby. Non-standard testing for students with approved accommodations will also be offered. These testing details, along with details for testing day and health/safety requirements, will be communicated directly by the College Board to the email address that was used for student registration. Be on the lookout for these email messages from the College Board. Test centers include: Walter Johnson, Whitman, Gaithersburg, Watkins Mill, Einstein, Blair, Northwest, Quince Orchard, Clarksburg, Seneca Valley (at Clemente or Clarksburg), Damascus, Rockville, and Paint Branch high schools.

Important Note on ACT: Although large national ACT administrations in MCPS buildings are not being offered in September or October at this time, MCPS is currently planning to administer the ACT for students with already approved accommodations. This small group testing will take place during the approved October special testing window. Parents of students with approved accommodations for special testing should contact the counseling department at their child’s school to make arrangements with the testing coordinator for testing to take place outside of the school day.
