Dear Caregivers and Students,
Here is some information about SSL opportunities available through Project Linus, an organization that provides handmade blankets to children experiencing trauma in Montgomery County and surrounding areas. Project Linus is a national registered nonprofit organization with chapters across the country (www.projectlinus.org).
Middle and high school students can earn SSL hours with Project Linus in 2 ways:
Attending one of our monthly meetings and helping us to make blankets. Our first meeting of the year will be Monday, September 18. We meet once a month, typically on the 3rd Monday of the month, from 6:30-8:30 PM in the cafeteria of Richard Montgom ery High School. All the meeting dates are listed on the attached flyer. Please do note that we provide all the necessary supplies and our adult volunteers supervise the blanket making activities. No special skills or experience is required. No pre-registration is required -- just show up and have fun. We provide completed SSL forms at the end of the meeting.
Students can also earn SSL hours by making blankets outside of meetings, provided that pictures and documentation are provided. We ask that students making blankets at home first attend one of our meetings, or contact us at projectlinus.mc@gmail.com, to make sure they are following the proper instructions.
Attached is a flyer with information about the organization, including meeting dates.
