Hello Wildcat Families!
My name is Tyra Bonner and I am the 7th grade counselor for students whose last names begin with A – R. The 2025-2026 school year will be my first year at Rocky Hill Middle School and my first year as a School Counselor. However, I started with MCPS in 2018 serving students in the areas of special education and restorative practices.
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies from The College of New Jersey, where I was a member of Lambda Tau Omega Sorority Inc., and a Lambda Pi Eta Honor Society Inductee. In 2025, I received my Master’s of Education in School Counseling from Bowie State University where I graduated with honors, and as a member of The National Society of Leadership and Success.
I was born and raised in New Jersey. However, in 2016, I moved to Maryland which has given me opportunities to serve as an EBB site director for Montgomery County Recreation's Youth Development Department, present at the Governor's House, contribute a book chapter on restorative practices with Kendall Hunt Publishing Company, and more.
I love singing, dancing, listening to music, napping, trying new restaurants, relaxing at the beach, playing volleyball, and hanging out with my friends and family.
I believe that every student has the potential to grow and succeed when provided with a supportive and inclusive environment. As a school counselor, I am committed to advocating for equity, fostering resilience, and empowering all students to achieve academic, social, and emotional wellness. Importantly, I believe in building strong relationships grounded in trust, respect, and empathy and ensuring that all students have access to the resources they need to reach their definition of success.
